Commuters driving in on one of the main roads into London were stuck on the A3 south of the M25 after a serious accident involving a motorcylist and several other vehicles.
Some commuters spent hours on the road trying to get to work in London.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance said they were called shortly after 7.30am to Ripley after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle.
The male motorcyclist was taken to St Peter's Hospital with injuries including a head injury.
Two lanes were blocked off travelling northbound while Surrey Police conduct an investigation into the accident.
A spokesman for the police said two lanes of the A3 were currently closed while an investigation was carried out.
