Old Meadonians went down to their first AFA Premier Division defeat of the seaosn when they went down 3-1 at Old Parmiterians on Saturday.

Having lost their unbeaten record in the London Old Boys Cup last week, Old Meadonians lost their first league game to pace setters Old Parmiterians at Walthamstow on Saturday by a convincing margin which in no way flattered the hosts who merited their success by hogging the lion’s share of the ball, camping for long periods in enemy territory.

In fact, but for Meads’ stubborn last ditch defence with keeper Simon Greening outstanding, they might have had more than their trio.

Parmiters have lost in the league this season in a rare blip but are a point clear at the top with a game in hand and they showed their class by giving the visitors a thorough examination after which the latter were happy to turn round with nothing in the debit column of the score book.

Parmiters were undeterred and on the restart took up where they had left off.

After a solid 15 minutes of pressure they reaped their reward when a low cross from the left was neatly tucked away.

Then, following five more minutes probing by the hosts there came a dramatic episode which could have totally altered the course of the game, albeit with an unfair slant towards Parmiters.

First, in an isolated raid, in form Meads’ striker, Ed Glover, chested down a cross to midfielder Dan Jacobs who put the ball into the top corner to equalise and almost immediately midfielder Andy Thompson put Jack Costello in on an overlap on the right.

If Costello’s rasping shot had gone in it would have been a bitter pill for the hosts to swallow and might even have been a crest of a wave moment for Meads.

However, the ball grazed the bar to go over and, although Meads then put in a mini power-play, the hosts reasserted their authority with two breakaway goals.
