Mayday Hospital has been presented with four insulin pumps by former Croydon Mayor, Councillor Derek Millard, who chose the department to benefit from the Mayoral Charity Fund while he was in office.
The hospital received the four new Medtronic machines on Thursday.
The small pumps strapped to a person’s waist pump tiny amounts of insulin into the body all day long, mimicking the natural process of the pancreas as it controls blood sugar in someone who does not have diabetes.
Diabetic consultant Richard Savine said: “We are very grateful to Derek Millard and everyone who has supported him in raising this money.”
Former Croydon Mayor, Councillor Derek Millard, said: "As my grandmother and mother were both diabetic, I realised that sooner or later I would suffer as well.
“This happened 12 years ago and when I became Mayor what could be more natural for one of my two charities than it to be diabetes?”
