By Community Correspondent Andrew Voneshen. Thursday night saw the culmination of the latest Surrey’s got talent competition at Woking College. Surrey’s got talent is an event organised by the S7 group; a collection of five sixth form colleges (Esher, Godalming, Reigate, Strode’s and Woking) who work together in order to benefit each other; part of this is the organisation of events like Surrey’s got talent. The premise of the contest is simple – ten acts, two from each participating college, three judges and one winner. The prize for winning: one hundred and fifty pounds (and a trophy). The winners of the competition were “Man Up” of Godalming College – a group of ten dancers who were applauded by the judges for their energy and creativity. Also featured were several singers, a band, an acoustic duet, a violinist, a comedienne and two break dancers! Apart from the obvious display of talent, the evening was great fun in general, with witty hosts and judges. Surrey’s got talent was a fun event, no question, but it also featured an awful lot of hard work. The overall aim of the competition was to raise money for Surrey youth centres, and much of the work would not have been possible without a collaboration from dozens of students and members of staff from all of the participating colleges. What the evening showed was not just a great selection of youth talent, but also the ability of students and colleges to organise and pull together, and create a fun, profitable event.
