Adult social care in Kingston is “performing well”, according to the Care Quality Commission’s annual performance assessment.
The report pointed to improvements in increasing choice and control and maintaining personal dignity and respect, and gave the borough the second highest of four grades used to measure performance.
The council was praised for supporting older people who want to live independently at home, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and increasing breaks for carers.
Councillor Rolson Davies, executive member for adult community services, said: “This is a good solid scorecard that clearly demonstrates how the council is continuing to move in the right direction by delivering consistent improvement to our local services.”
The commission did highlight increased waiting times for major and minor adaptations to homes.
Coun Davies said: “Adaptations can lead to delayed discharges, and we are doing everything within our power to speed that up.”
Surrey County Council was judged adequate, and was “only delivering the minimum requirements for people”, while Richmond, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth were also performing well.
