A Thames Ditton pub was packed with greyhounds on Sunday, November 22, when staff and volunteers at Hersham-based Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare (WGW) turned out to raise money for new kennels.
The fittingly named Greyhound pub in Weston Green launched its new Christmas menu on the day, and landlady Freda Saunders has promised to donate £1 to WGW, which has its kennels in Turners Lane, for every meal bought during the festive period.
Jane Griffiths, WGW’s events organiser, said: “We are so grateful to Freda and her staff for doing this for the kennels.”
The greyhounds were brought to the pub wearing yuletide clothes to sit with the members of WGW while they enjoyed mince pies and wine.
Denise Dubarbier, manager at WGW, said she was thrilled with the new partnership the kennels had set up with The Greyhound.
She said: “Christmas is the perfect time of year to celebrate and for one greyhound to help another.”
