Residents of Wimbledon Chase have raised more than £600 for Help for Heroes, a charity dedicated to supporting members of the armed forces who are wounded in battle.
Billy Lock, a local ex-soldier, had a sponsored shave-off after growing a beard over five months which raised £400 for the cause.
Help for Heroes is currently helping his friend, Stephen Vause, who has recently returned home after being injured in combat.
A charity night held at the Emma Hamilton pub in Kingston Road on December 4 raised an additional £250. Events included a karaoke, and games sponsored by Karin Flower, manager of Adecco Wimbledon.
She said: “I was happy to donate these prizes to a charity which looks after the real heroes.
“The night was a fun-filled way to contribute to a very important charity.”
