Young Muslims in Southfields are setting an example by caring for the community around their mosque.
Youngsters from the London Mosque’s youth association have been clearing rubbish and sweeping the roads around the mosque every week since November.
People of different ages and backgrounds have joined the organisation to clean up the area after meeting for pre-dawn prayer.
The London Mosque, in Gressenhall Road, Southfields – the first mosque in London – has been a focal point of the community since it was built in 1924.
Now their project is going from strength to strength.
Ataul Munem, the mosque’s youth leader, said: “Cleanliness is promoted by Islam and by being involved in activities like these we can all do our bit to serve the community we live in. At the same time youngsters gain discipline, teamwork and respect.”
