The Liberal Democrats have selected Simon Rix to take on incumbent Conservative MP Richard Ottaway in Croydon South at next year’s general election.
Mr Rix, a 38-year-old book publisher, was unanimously elected by the local party members last week to be the prospective parliamentary candidate.
The Conservatives have held Croydon South since it was created in 1974, with Mr Ottaway grabbing more than 50 per cent of the vote during the last general election in 2005.
Mr Ottaway has come under fire this year for claiming £85,000 for a second home outside of Croydon, despite Westminster being just a 30 minutes train commute from Croydon South.
The MP received a vote of confidence from local Conservative party members in August.
