A dead body was found lying in an alleyway in East Molesey yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to the alleyway connecting Vine Road and Bridge Road at around 4pm on Thursday, December 12, and told residents on Thursday evening that a tragic accident had occurred.
Attempts are being made to identify the body, which was found by a member of the public.
The alleyway, which runs parallel to Wolsey Road, has attracted complaints by East Molesey residents in the past 12 months about drug dealing and late-night violence.
But police have not confirmed whether the death, described by officers as a “tragic accident”, was related to drugs or drug-related crime.
The alleyway remains sealed off and is likely to be closed until later this evening.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Officers attended an alleyway off Bridge Road in Molesey shortly before 5pm yesterday, following the discovery of the body of a 24-year-old man.
"Detectives are carrying out a thorough and extensive investigation to the incident."
Anyone who was in the Bridge Road area from 4pm on Thursday onwards should contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference P09392921, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
