Crystal Palace Football Club were handed a lifeline last night after a dream victory in the FA Cup.
The Eagle's 3-1 win over Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers means the club will get up to £750,000 as television rights, prize money and ticket sales for its next cup appearance.
The club’s fullback, Danny Butterfield, 30, became the hero of the hour after scoring a six minute hat trick.
Accountants are desperately trying to find a buyer for the club worried that the £800,000-a-month wage bills could still force it to shut down.
Despite selling Victor Moses for £2.5m, it can only expect to see £1m immediately as the Football League is still owed about £1m in transfer fees.
Brendan Guilfoyle, from P&A Partnership, said a prospective buyer had not yet come forward, although there had been interest.
Mr Guilfoyle said: “On Thursday we will see how long we can keep going if we don’t get a buyer. History tells me someone always pops up.”
Mr Guilfoyle said they would need to sell more players and had a firm offer from a Premiership club for another one of their players, but said the player had refused to leave.
“My duty is to get Crystal Palace out of financial trouble and trading again as a football club.”
The club will be formally advertised for sale in the Financial Times later this week.
The administration order placed on the cup automatically deducted 10 points from the Championship side’s score leaving them with the worrying prospect of relegation to League one.
