Police are hunting a Christmas Day burglar who forced his way past staff at a Mitcham foster home and stole cash from a 16-year-old resident in broad daylight.

The man, aged between 30 and 35, banged on the door of the Ebony Care Home in Rural Way at 3pm, shouting at staff that he was owed money by the victim.

He then kicked open the door and forced his way past a member of staff and entered the victim’s room.

According to a police spokesman, he said to one of the home’s employees: “I respect you as a woman but she [the victim] owes me money and I’ll take something from her room unless she pays up.”

He then left with several items from the room before police arrived at the scene.

Police said the man is known by the victim and is thought to use the name Joey Karma. He is about 5ft 9ins, has three small scars on his right cheek and was wearing a beanie hat, black leather jacket, black trousers and trainers.

Anyone with information about the man should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
