A suspected brothel has been closed down after neighbours reported “unsavoury and antisocial” men visiting the building.
Sutton West Safer Neighbourhoods Team shut down the suspected brothel in a flat in Mulgrave Road, Sutton, on Wednesday February 3.
Inside, officers found one woman, aged 34, and a man, aged in his 50s.
The man was served with a letter warning that police would return in the near future to ensure the premises were not being used in breach of the Sexual Offences Acts.
The letter stated: “If these premises continue to be used in this capacity, persons acting in contravention of the above legislation will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Sgt Graham Elrick, who led the operation, said: “Once the letter has been served, the people running the business usually close it down.”
He thanked residents for reporting their concerns to Police after they had seen ‘unsavoury characters’ entering and exiting the premises during the day and evening causing a nuisance with parking and other minor anti-social behaviour.
