A newsagent’s shop was the target of an attempted arson attack.
The owner of the shop called police after finding broken bottles with rolled up tissue in the neck around the front of his shop in Tattenham Way.
The window and door had also been shattered during the incident, in the early hours of January 23.
Police are appealing for information about the attack.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Nicola Hunt, said: “Thankfully the arson attack was not successful and no one was injured. However a reinforced glass panel worth £800 was damaged in the attack, and we are treating this as a serious offence.
“Even a failed attempt to start a fire is an incredibly dangerous offence, and something Surrey Police will not tolerate.
“We need to identify who is responsible to bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information should call DC Hunt at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
