Surrey Police are investigating after a 19-year-old woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault in Weybridge in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident took place in the car park of Weybridge Cricket Club, in Princes Road, after the teenager had been on a night out and was returning home via Queens Road.

As she walked past the cricket club she was pulled into the car park by a man who then pushed her to the ground and subjected her to the assault, said a police spokesman.

The victim escaped and ran back into Princes Road.

The attacker was described as being in his 30s, with dark hair and wearing dark clothing.

The police, who carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area over the weekend, have appealed for any witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to speak to a group of three or four men who were standing close to a car parked in Princes Road prior to the attack.

The men got into the car and drove off shortly after the woman had passed them, a Surrey Police spokesman said.

Detective Sergeant Nick Hemmant, leading the investigation, said: “This incident has understandably left the young victim very shaken and frightened.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Princes Road area in the early hours of this morning and may have seen the woman or anyone acting suspiciously in the area to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to hear from the group that were standing by the car who may be able to help with our inquiries.”
