A West Norwood schoolboy has earned a place in a London orchestra - playing an instrument the same size as him.
Musical prodigy Kai Tay Ashcroft, 13, who goes to Dulwich College, is to join the senior National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) playing the contrabassoon.
His dad, Michael Ashcroft, said it took a lot of talent to play the instrument at so young an age.
He said: “It takes an immense amount of breath to get the sound out of it.”
Kai, who already played the piano, bassoon and sung, and had been part of the NCO’s under 12 and under 13 orchestra – was advised to take up the instrument by his teacher.
