A supermarket giant has denied spying on staff toilets with security cameras to catch caught-short employees taking too long on the loo.
Allegations surfaced that Tesco was using CCTV to monitor staff at its UK branches, including Sutton, when workers ranted on online forum verylittlehelps.com.
Members of the forum, which runs by the borrowed slogan “the more you put in. the more you get back”, claimed the cameras were violating their rights.
But Tescos has rubbished the claims, dismissing them as “nonsense”.
Staffers had claimed that the CCTV cameras were originally installed in corridors outside restrooms for security purposes.
One worker at the Sutton branch said: "Management are timing the time people take in there.
"People are finding themselves rushing in the loo so as not to get in trouble."
Another said: “They can't use security systems to spy on staff unless they have a valid reason.”
However, one wrote: “If it catches out staff having a crafty tea break it could prove a hit.”
A Tesco spokesman said Tesco was “busy serving customers” rather than monitoring its staff.
He said: “There is no truth in this. No staff have been disciplined. This is utter nonsense.”
