Students at Thamesmead School in Shepperton have been busy collecting coins from family and friends for a house competition at school to see who could collect the most, all in aid of the Haiti Earthquake Appeal. The students then spent lunchtime at the end of the week, speedily laying out rows of coins to see who had collected the most. Mrs Wallis, Assistant Headteacher judged the competition which was won by Newton House, who collected over 29 rows of coins, totaling £236.31.
The grand total of all the coins collected was a brilliant £800.05, which has now been donated to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal. Mrs Wallis commented “Many students wanted to respond to the desperate needs of the victims of the Haiti Earthquake, and this has been a great effort by everyone. We are delighted to have collected this amount in small change. It’s amazing.”
