Sutton Schools U11s resumed the new year where they left off in 2009 with a 3-0 victory over top-of-the-table Gloucester on Saturday.
Sutton started strongly snuffing out the dangerous Gloucester forwards and took the lead when Alex Bannister intercepted and poked the ball goalwards for Stefan Ilic to tap in.
Gloucester came back brightly but after some neat passing moves, Billy Morcombe took the direct route and his long clearance found Bannister who shrugged off two defenders to fire superbly into the top corner.
In the second half, Gloucester put on the pressure and forced a series of corners, but ‘keeper Feeley and his trusty back four were up to the task and at the other end, a superb finish by Ryan Healy from the edge of the box secured the win and the points for Sutton.
South West Trains player of the match with a powerhouse display in midfield was Cameron Steele. Sutton are at home to Newbury this Saturday in the Southern League (Mill Lane 10.30) Sutton: Feeley (Brookfield), McGee -Capt., Healy (St. Cecilia’s), Hicks (Robin Hood), Hopper (Homefield), Steele, Morcombe (Bandon Hill), Jeevan, Scantlebury (High View), Bannister (Benhilton), Norman (St. Mary’s), Ilic (Cheam Common)
