People can get their bikes made safe and secure at an event in Walton on Saturday, February 13.
After the revelation last month that in the past year bike thefts had gone up by 60 per cent, the Elmbridge Community Partnership decided it was time to step up the public’s awareness a gear.
The Cycle Secure event takes place at the Heart shopping centre, where police officers mark property for free and offer advice on keeping bikes, sheds and garages safe from criminals.
East St Cycles in Walton will offer 25 per cent off Secure Gold certified bike locks on the day.
Peter Kipps, the Elmbridge Community Safety Manager, said: “It is important that we act fast in combating the large increase in bicycle thefts. I would like to thank our partners, Surrey Police and East St Cycles for coming up with this event, which will publicise the issue of bike thefts and give practical help to those who bring their bicycles along to be property marked.”
