A dodgy door-to-door bookseller is at work in Wimbledon.
An officer from Merton police’s Dundonald safer neighbourhood team said a woman answered her door and was offered free books by the salesman. She accepted them and refused to buy anything else, but was later sent a letter demanding money with the threat of legal action.
Merton Council’s trading standards team is now investigating the case.
PC Gareth Purkis said: “We would advise residents to exercise their discretion - If something looks to good to be true it invariably is. Always check the small print and be cautious when dealing with unknown people calling unannounced at your door.”
