A community orchard is being installed at Upper Norwood's Beaulieu Heights using funding provided by GreenPrints, a partnership of not-for-profit organisations including the BBC and The Wildlife Trusts.
Apprentices from Crystal Palace's Capel Manor College are installing apple, pear, plum and cherry trees which should be ready for harvest by local residents from the summer of 2011.
The Beaulieu Heights regeneration project is managed by a group of 16 to 25-year-old volunteers from Croydon and Lambeth.
To celebrate its completion, a community fun day at Beaulieu Heights has been organised for March 20. Email young_friends_of@yahoo.co.uk for information.
