Controversial plans for a new academy to be built on the site of a Tulse Hill primary school have been approved in principle.
Outline planning permission for the development at Fenstanton Primary School was approved by a majority of four to one at a planning meeting on Wednesday night.
The permission is subject to a number of conditions, including the agreement of a scheme to preserve existing trees on the site and to upgrade surrounding roads, pedestrian and cyclist networks.
The plans have come under intense criticism from parents and local residents, who feel the academy is being squeezed on to a site that is too small.
There are also fears that the new academy will lead to a rise in antisocial behaviour in the area and result in the loss of valuable green space.
Detailed plans for the site are now awaited.
