Leslie Thompson's 94th minute winner saw Croydon Athletic come away with all the points against Sittingbourne on Saturday as they won 2-1 at the KT Stadium.
The first half was pretty much one way traffic with the Rams having most of the possession but were unable to convert their chances, with Rory Hill causing problems down the wing and Chris Bourne dominant at the back.
Gareth Williams had a header that was well saved by the Sittingbourne keeper in the 20th minute and Jeremy Williams also saw his header go just over the crossbar.
Some good build-up play from Danny Waldren and Gary Noel saw the ball eventually fall to Hill, but his attempt was inches over the bar.
For Sittingbourne, Hicham Akhazzan and Tom Bradbrook had chances but did not trouble new Croydon keeper Andy Little.
Jeremy Williams at the back won the ball well and he sent a lovely pass through to Hill only for the Sittingbourne keeper to come out and deny him the shot.
The breakthrough came in the 48th minute when Joe Howe’s perfect cross floated into the path of Gareth Williams who calmly slotted the ball home to put the Rams 1-0 up.
Bradbrook soon equalised for the away team though in the 61st minute with a well taken strike, and the game could have gone either way.
As the match drew to a close it looked like a draw was on the cards although there were last minute chances for both teams.
A Sittingbourne substitute had a free header in the box but the ball went sailing over the bar and Bentley Graham for the Rams saw his 30 yard strike go just wide. However, four minutes into injury time, Thompson came away the hero getting the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to snatch the points for the home team and send the home fans away celebrating.
Leaders Folkestone Invicta saw their match with Whyteleafe postponed so the Rams are now with eight points of them, with Folkestone set to be deducted 10 points for entering into a CVA.
