Old Malden’s Girl Guides were top of the pops last week, when they made a special appearance on the radio to celebrate 100 years of guiding.

Members of the 1st Worcester Park and Old Malden Rainbows, aged between five and seven, met DJ Mick Brown at the Radio Jackie studios in Tolworth on Tuesday, February 2, to show off a jingle they composed.

Hattie Bartle, rainbow leader, said: “The girls went strangely quiet once they were in the studio, quite a contrast to the noise they were making outside. I think they were a bit star struck.

“But they clearly enjoyed seeing where the radio comes from and when Mick Brown played out ‘Centenary Jingle’ it was the icing on the cake.”

This jingle was produced as one of Girl Guides’ 100 challenges for the Adventure 100 badge, as part of Girl Guides’ centenary celebrations.

The words, sung to the tune of ‘I Can Sing a Rainbow’ are: “Rainbows, Guides and Brownies too, Guiding is 100 this year. Come and have some fun, join in everyone, be a part of what we do.”
