Brian Adamson accepts his Corinthian Casuals side must learn how to take that final step if they are to complete their journey from relegation strugglers to play-off chasers in the Ryman Division One South.
After years of struggle, the amateurs have flourished this year, moving into a creditable mid-table position after an encouraging season of results.
But Adamson admits there is still a long way to go for his side.
He said: “The teams that are up at the top of the table generally have that little bit extra and they get used to winning.
“That is the difference between them and us - the consistency.
“We know we are capable of getting results against the better sides but we are not doing it week in, week out.
“If we can put that right and have the confidence to kick on there are better things ahead for us.”
Case in point for Casuals was Saturday’s 1-0 reverse at high-flying Godalming Town, where Adamson’s men slipped up in a game of few chances.
He added: “That was a classic example - it was a pretty boring game really between two evenly-matched sides.
“But they got one good chance and took it, and that is the level we need to aspire to.
“We can have no complaints about the result as we did not create anything.
“But if we can get to a stage where we can win without playing well then we are in business.”
Corinthian face Croydon Athletic this weekend and having been turned over twice by them this season Adamson is well aware of the threat posed by Tim O’Shea’s side.
Adamson added: “We have lost to Croydon in both the league and cup and both times they really looked the part.
“Very few teams have turned us over this year, but they have, and we will have to put in a very good performance this weekend to get anything out of the game.”
Corinthian Casuals’ next three games: Feb 20 Croydon Athletic (h), 23 Leatherhead (h), 27 Chatham Town (h)
