The Wedding Singer, Arts Educational Schools
This is an excellent American musical in the very best traditions of that genre. Brash, noisy and energetic with that dash of social satire which brings vivid life to a previously unknown area of US existence.
From the opening chorus with its gymnastic dance sequences so skilfully performed, it tells you it’s here to entertain you which is does successfully for two swift-moving hours of good tunes and witty lyrics.
As in all ArtsEd productions it’s the performances that matter and talent is here in abundance. As the ‘made for each other couple’ Julia and Robbie who finally get together, Rob Compton and Francesca Leyland have the essential looks and voices, while Tanya Stephens, Claire Johnston, Mark Patterson and Billy Callum make the very most of supporting but very individual roles.
