The builder murdered in Norwood on Valentine's Day was killed by a stab wound.

Detectives investigating the murder of labourer Mark Corcoran, 26, are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the murder in South Norwood, close to the Crystal Palace FC ground, Selhurst Park.

A post-mortem examination took place on Monday February 15 at Croydon Mortuary and gave cause of death as a stab wound.

Police were called to Whitehorse Lane at about 8.20pm on Sunday, February 14, to reports of a man stabbed.

Police said Mr Corcoran was attacked before staggering into a shop and asking for help.

Shop staff called police and the ambulance service. The emergency services attended, including the air ambulance, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9pm.

An incident room has opened at Lewisham, under DCI Cliff Lyons from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Lyons said: "We know that Mr Corcoran attended a wedding on Valentine's Day and we are appealing for anyone who has knowledge of his attendance at this wedding or his movements throughout the day to come forward.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Crystal Palace football ground, particularly after 7.30pm, who may have seen or heard anything."

"We retain an open mind regarding any motive for the assault at this early stage."
