Kew Sinfonia, St Anne's Church
Whether by pure coincidence or deliberate intent, the three items comprising Kew Sinfonia’s concert at St Anne’s Church, Kew Green, all contained the figure three.
Beethoven’s Overture Leonora No. 3 received a dramatic interpretation, to be followed by Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 3.
Gudrun Edwards, long associated with Kew, gave a refined and thoughtful performance, occasionally reminding me of Anne-Sophie Mutter, who chose this concerto for her debut with Karajan.
Dressed in black, instead of green, Edwards returned for the second half after the interval to lead this fine orchestra in a superb performance of the third symphony of Brahms.
Marc Dooley, 34, directed with youthful experience, combining charisma and considerable knowledge of the symphony from the podium.
