Police are investigating after two hooded thugs followed a Weybridge couple home and robbed them at knifepoint earlier this month.
The couple, both in their 30s, were driving home in a black Audi Quattro and had turned off at the Painshill exit on the A3, just after midnight on Sunday, February 7, when they noticed another vehicle following closely behind them as they drove into Goodacre Close.
As they parked the other car, a dark-coloured BMW convertible, had also parked close by.
When they got out, two men in the BMW, with hooded tops covering their faces, also got out of their car and approached.
They threatened the couple with a knife and forced them to hand over the car keys, a small amount of cash and a brown leather handbag.
They then escaped in the Audi, down St George’s Avenue, towards Queens Road, followed by the BMW.
A spokesman for Surrey Police said the couple were not injured during the robbery.
The first robber was about 5ft 10in and wore light blue jeans and a dark blue hooded top, with a white checked scarf across the lower half of his face.
The second was about 6ft 1in, wearing a black hooded top and black jeans.
Detective Constable Phil Carter, leading the investigation, said: “This was a serious offence where a couple have been threatened and had valuable property stolen.
“Fortunately neither victim was injured, but this was a very traumatic incident for both of them and I am determined to track down those responsible.
“This was a cynical and planned robbery and we believe there were at least three offenders involved the incident.
“We are doing everything possible track down the suspects, but the nature of this robbery, where the offenders seem to have followed the victim’s vehicle, is very unusual.
“I am very keen to speak to any members of the public who saw either vehicle involved in the offence, particularly anyone who saw where the BMW and stolen Audi went following the incident.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any further information should call D Con Carter at Staines CID on 0845 1252222, quoting reference EL/10/916, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
