Johnny Ertl was ecstatic at scoring his first Crystal Palace goal on Sunday and says that doing it in front of a full Holmesdale stand made it extra special.

The Austrian headed in Darren Ambrose's corner to give the Eagles the lead against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and with the game also being shown live in his home land, the strike was even sweeter.

"I scored in front of a packed Holmesdale and in the FA Cup against Aston Villa in a game broadcast in Austria and Germany so I couldn't ask for more," he said.

"It was my first goal for the club and I was really delighted for that and the club as it gave us a huge boost and we played an awesome game.

"After the game I got so many text messages from friends in Austria saying we are now Crystal Palace supporters because it was such a great game and played with so much passion and enthusiasm."

The 27-year-old also thanked Eagles fans for the atmosphere they created on Sunday and urged them to do the same tonight against Reading and on Saturday against Coventry.

"When you walk out from the changing room and the atmosphere is like that it gives you a huge lift," he said.

"As players we just want to give something back as the fans were cheering all the time and it's great.

"The atmosphere at Selhurst Park is special and cup ties are different but we want a lot of supporters to come to the next games as well as these are really important matches."
