An ailing but much-loved weeping willow tree received a stay of execution yesterday when the council failed to carry out its threatened removal.
The tree has dominated the Sackville estate in Streatham for half a decade and is thought to be at least 100-years-old.
Residents are sad to see the tree go but have accepted that its eventual removal is now inevitable as the tree has become a danger to passersby.
