For 20-years music fans have flocked to Mikes Music to pick up everything from second hand Beatles records to rare punk music and jazz classics.
But soon loyal customers will have to find somewhere else to buy their retro records as owner Mike Castleman is retiring - and the Worcester Park store will close later this year.
The 67-year-old said he would be sad to leave and many customers had been “mortified” at the news. However, he insisted it was time for him to retire and “escape from the reality of running a shop”.
Mr Castleman, who always dreamed of owning a record shop, said: “I still enjoy what I do and look forward to coming into work every day – I call it a 'hobby job'.
“I'm finding it difficult to drag myself away from the shop - I'm still quite busy and I'm not scaling things down as I should be.”
Mikes Music attracts customers from as far afield as Japan and even at the peak of the recession Mr Castleman's business did not suffer. He said: “I'm closing down but people are still buying records – it doesn't really make sense.
“Many of my customers are die hard vinyl fans and have been coming to my shop for years.”
Some records in Mr Castleman's shop are around 60-years-old and can sell for up to £50.
He said: “I've not decided what to do with all of my records when the shop closes. I'll probably store them and then look at my options.”
Mikes Music was scheduled to close at the end of March, however Mr Castleman now estimates the shop will close sometime before the start of July.
