Transport for London (TfL) says work on the A3 which has caused traffic problems this week is set to be completed on Friday.
Drivers using the busy thoroughfare have been struggling this week, as Southern Gas Networks repaired a leaking gas leak.
A TfL spokesman said: "Southern Gas Networks have now fixed and completed the leaking gas main and will begin resurfacing later today along with replacing the central bollards that had to be removed.
"It is estimated that the site will be clear tomorrow afternoon/evening and the road fully reopened."
Work on the road began on Tuesday and caused traffic chaos, with drivers enduring around two hours of delays during peak times.
