Those not part of the internet generation can brush up on their computer skills at courses in Elmbridge’s Centres for Retired People.
The council’s community support services have teamed up with Digital Unite to run the courses once a week, for four weeks.
Digital Unite, who also organise the national annual silver surfers day, developed the courses based on what centre customers would like to learn - an introduction to computing, internet and email, managing digital photographs and word processing.
Funding has been secured enabling nearly all the seven centres to buy new computers and keep course costs low.
Each course costs £35 and includes a booklet which gives the student a record of what they have learned.
Tina Bissix, one of the first students on the introduction to computing course at Cobham Centre, said: “I already know how to get around my computer and send emails, but I wanted to start with the basics to build my confidence and maybe learn something new. I plan to do all the courses so that I can keep up with the grandchildren and maybe teach them a thing or two.”
