Julian Speroni's late error left Crystal Palace in the bottom three for the first time this season as they lost 1-0 to Coventry City at Selhurst Park.
The Argentine got stuck in no-man's land when David Bell ran onto Jon Stead's pass and the Coventry substitute chipped the keeper from the edge of the box with five minutes left.
Palace never threatened an equaliser and their best chance came to Nick Carle in the 80th minute but he was denied by Kieren Westwood and James McPake blocked Kieran Djilali's follow up.
In the first half, Darren Ambrose had a shot cleared off the line by Richard Wood in the only moment of note, while Speroni did well to stop Aron Gunnarsson when he was through on goal after the break.
The defeat was Palace's third in a row and with Ipswich winning at Sheffield Wednesday, Neil Warnock's side slipped into the relegation zone.
