Community spirit is a phrase which many people forget or overlook, some people say it is a thing of the past; people are too busy to fit in community activities.
However Brentford football club sports trust have always contributed to the community, setting up Saturday clubs, Christmas parties and helping those with disabilities within the area. Even though they have to train and play footy the players of Brentford always seem happy to work with young children in the area, signing t-shirts and coaching some of the younger generation.
One of the most recent activities which the club introduced is the extreme ability programme which lasts for three years throughout 2008-2011. This programme aims to help those children of fourteen and over who have disabilities such as visual impairment; it allows those children to take part in activities which normally would be out of bounds. These activities include swimming, aerobics and kayaking. Not only does the club offer opportunities to those with disabilities, they also run a Saturday club which offers children between the ages of 5-12 the opportunity to learn how to play football with a qualified coach, so that parents can get their children active as well as being able to get in that Saturday shopping in peace.
Although many people believe that community is not important Brentford Football club show the benefits and what opportunities are offered when the community unites. So why don’t you get involved and reap the benefits too.
