Paul Norris has demanded three points when his Banstead Athletic side tangle with Combined Counties league bottom club Bookham this weekend.

Banstead, mired deep in relegation trouble themselves, have seen their last two games fall foul of the inclement weather.

And Norris has revealed he will accept no excuses when Bookham make the trip to Merland Rise this weekend.

He said: “Without any doubt it is a must-win game for us.

“Bookham are down there with us and they have games in hand on us.

“We need to be putting some real distance between us and them.

“I honestly think we are capable of beating any side in this division, but that is not to say we will be underestimating them in any way.

But I am confident we are a better side than them and I look forward to us proving that on Saturday.”

Athletic have played up to six games more than some of their near rivals - a fact that irks boss Norris.

He added: “It really bothers me but there is not really anything that we can do about it.

“All we can do is hopefully put a run of results together to get us out of the mess that we find ourselves in.

“In a way I would rather be in our position - a lot of clubs are now having to play three or four games in a week and for non-league footballers that is a lot to ask.”

Norris has also further swelled the ranks at Banstead by bringing in Tom Jelley from Merstham and Kingstonian’s Tom Dilloway as he looks to beat the drop.

And the Athletic boss insists his side are too good to go down.

Norris added: “The squad I have put together now should not be in this position.

“But as long as we get the results we need we will have nothing to worry about and then we can look to next season.”

Banstead Athletic’s next three matches: Feb 27 Bookham (h), Mar 2 Chessington & Hook (h), 6 Ash United (a)
