A thief who stole £4,000 of cigarettes from a delivery van told a shop customer to “mind his own business” before escaping.

Police are now appealing for the customer, who confronted three suspects involved in the theft outside the Cash & Carry in Beddington Farm Road, to come forward.

A spokesman said the theft took place about 3pm on Wednesday February 17, after a white transit van had parked in the ‘goods in’ area next to a Bestway van.

He said: “As the Bestway van was being loaded with goods, the white transit style van moved closer and three suspects jumped out, opened the back doors of the Bestway van and grabbed two black bags.

“The suspects, who were all described as white and young, drove off turning right into Beddington Farm Road towards Purley Way.”

Police would like to speak to the Bestway customer, or anyone else who saw the incident.
