Councillor Maurice Heaster, deputy leader of Wandsworth Council, has collected his OBE from Buckingham Palace.
Coun Heaster was named on the New Years Honours List and presented with the honour by her Majesty the Queen which recognises his 40 years of distinguished service to local government.
First elected to Wandsworth Council in May 1968, he has served on almost every committee and currently holds the post of deputy council leader - a position he has occupied for a total of 25 years.
Coun Heaster said: “I'm incredibly honoured to receive the award. It has been my privilege to serve the people of Wandsworth for so long.”
