It is just as well that the Sky Sports camera team was at Riverside Lands to film referee Lorraine Deschamps rather than the teams on show on Saturday.
It was the worst game at the Lands for many a year as Meads failed to make much headway against an Aloysians side eight points adrift of safety.
Ironically, it was Sky employee Simon Greening who took the plaudits in the hosts’ goal as he made a succession of fine saves.
There was a bizarre moment when a daisy-cutting back-pass gave a lurking Aloysian an open goal 15 yards out, but he planted the ball onto the bar and into Greening’s grateful arms.
Meads were clearly missing injured playmaker Jack Costello and absent striker Colin Hawkins, but they showed a more measured approach in the second half.
Will Gerrish forced an excellent save from the Aloysian keeper with a 20-yard effort and, with half an hour to go, ex-Aloysian Nick Jones saw a volley from a narrow angle tipped over.
Jones did play a part in the winner, his cross-shot coming back off the bar for Dwayne Rhone to net the rebound.
Meads move up to second in the table ahead of clashes with third-placed Minchendenians and league leaders Bealonians in the next fortnight.
Old Meadonians: Greening, Pointer, Palmer, Thompson, Glover, (D. Smith), Gerrish, N Jones, Quinn, Rhone, Eguae, A Jones.
