An eating disorder self-help group is appealing for more members during Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
Helping Hands was set up in September so that those suffering with bulimia or anorexia would not feel isolated and alone.
The ten-strong group, made up of people from all over south-west London, meets fortnightly at Springfield Hospital in Tooting.
One 19-year-old member, who helped found the group, said: “Often it can feel isolating. A lot of people don’t understand very much about it. To be able to come and spend an hour talking with people who understand what you’re feeling, that’s where the support is focussed. We help people challenge the thoughts that they may be feeling.”
The group, which is for over-18s only, meets every first and third Wednesday of the month between 6.45pm and 8.15pm.
