A new 10-point action plan for improving Clapham Junction station and creating better connections to the rest of London has been unveiled by the council.
The document sets out the measures needed to bring Battersea's interchange up to standard and for increasing capacity on overstretched services.
Objectives are also set for connecting the station with more rail and underground services to create direct links with other parts of the capital.
Clapham Junction was recently named the second worst station in the country in a Government report and pressure is mounting for major new investment.
It’s the busiest station in the country with more than 1,700 trains and 40,000 passengers passing through everyday.
Council transportation spokesman Guy Senior said: “Clapham Junction is essential to the future of south west London’s transport network and our plan sets ten key objectives for the station’s development. Some involve relatively simple steps, while others require long-term policy commitments from the transport authorities.
“While we’ve made some progress in recent years there can be no doubt that a much higher scale of investment is needed to tackle the major issues facing Clapham Junction. This plan points the way forward.”
