A roadworks labourer who served residents for 45 years received an award this week to recognise his loyalty to the borough.
Roy Dunn first started work for the council on 14 September 1964 in the council’s highways team.
Originally based at the old Tooting Depot at Greaves Place, his first pay packet came in at 12 pounds, 2 shillings and 6 pence.
Roy, who is responsible for street maintenance, has worked under 45 different mayors and 11 separate political administrations.
Throughout his years he has missed only a handful of days through sickness – the last being more than 10 years ago.
He intends to finally retire in December this year by which time he will have clocked up an outstanding 46 years service for the council.
Wandsworth’s deputy leader, Maurice Heaster, attended a town hall reception to celebrate Roy's achievement and present him with a commemorative book.
Coun Heaster said: "It is a rarity in this day and age for anyone to complete 45 years service for one employer, let alone one section of a department. I was delighted to present the award to Roy and to thank him personally for his loyalty and commitment to Wandsworth."
