The public’s ideas are being sought by Croydon Council on their options for investing £1.5m in the borough’s nine favourite parks.
The parks were chosen by a vote that ran up until Christmas and nearly 9,000 people expressed their views on what they thought were the most deserving green spaces in the borough.
People are now being asked to suggest how they would like to see the money spent, and a message board has been set up on the Parks to be Proud of website at croy don.gov.uk/yourparks so not only can people have their say, but they can also read what others are thinking.
The website includes a range of possible options people might find useful in thinking about what other kinds of things they would like.
Not everything can be considered – for practical or financial reasons – but the council wants as many ideas to be sent in as possible.
Once the message board closes at the end of February the real work begins, and residents will be given options for each of the nine parks.
They will be able to go to the website or fill in a paper survey form and effectively “spend” the available money by choosing the options they prefer.
Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: “This new way of spending council money is called ‘participatory budgeting’.
“It means that we are committed to spending resources on the things people see as genuine priorities.”
