Sunny weather brought large numbers of visitors to Surbiton’s first farmers’ market of the year on Saturday morning.
With more stalls and new producers at the Maple Road market, shoppers had an even wider range of seasonal produce and speciality foods to choose from.
The market is a community interest company, organised by and for the local community, and run by volunteers.
A portion of the proceeds from three trial markets late last year have been returned to the community to support local charities and good causes.
Among the first to benefit was Stud Farm Nursery in Home Park, run by the Causeway Centre, which received a cheque for £528 at Saturday’s market.
The sum included £390 raised at a party for local residents and traders, hosted by Surbiton bar, Gordon Bennett.
This month’s nominated charity was the Surrey Wildlife Trust and the next market, on March 20, will benefit the Fircroft Trust, which supports adults living in the community with mental health problems or learning disabilities.
