Two late John Carew penalties condemned spirited Crystal Palace to a 3-1 defeat in their FA Cup fifth round replay with Aston Villa.
Both spot kicks were awarded for needless fouls by Matt Lawrence on Carew and the big Norwegian gave Julian Speroni no chance by thumping both efforts down the middle.
Darren Ambrose had put Palace level on 73 minutes with a spot kick of his own after Alan Lee was tripped by Stephen Warnock.
A host of saves from Speroni had kept Villa at bay in a one-sided first half.
The Eagles' resistance was broken in the 43rd minute though when Gabriel Agbonlahor escaped the attentions of Shaun Derry and headed in Ashley Young's corner.
Replays though suggested the corner kick should have been a goal kick.
Palace piled forward after the break but in the end their efforts were in vain as they went out of the cup.
