Police are appealing for anyone in Streatham who has recently bought a pug dog to get in touch.
Officers investigating a robbery in Plumstead on February 17 believe one of the stolen dogs may have been sold on in Streatham.
At about 11.45am a 60-year-old woman was walking with her two pug dogs when she was approached from behind by two men, who snatched one of her pets.
Detective Sergeant Keith Simmonett, of the Greenwich robbery squad, said: "We have recieved information that the Pug dog might have been sold in Streatham this week.
"We would like to urge anyone in the Streatham area who has recently purchased a Pug dog to contact us as soon as possible.
"The dog might have been sold cheaply. Pug dogs are generally worth around £900."
Police said the thieves were dark-skinned Europeans, in their 20s. One was wearing a black jacket and the other white trainers with a grey tracksuit and a sleeveless silver padded jacket.
The pair drove off down Duncroft towards Swingate Lane.
The stolen dog is 18 months old, microchipped and was wearing a black harness.
