With the rise of global warming, councils and governments are on a race to encourage environmentally friendly alternatives to energy and travel. As many may know, cycling is considered an environmental method of travelling, and has increased in popularity in the past few years. However, it seems cyclists have an appalling attitude towards them. Cyclists appear to be considered a nuisance by motorists and cyclists. When talking to many dedicated cyclists it is clear to see that both motorists and pedestrians do not want cyclists in their area, and in some cases, cyclists have been assaulted. Although cycle paths are provided in some areas, it is apparent that they are too small and unsafe, and pedestrians decide to use them. On top of the inconsideration towards cyclists in general, theft and damaging of bikes that have been locked up in specific areas for bikes are a regular occurrence. Securities around places where bikes have been locked definitely need to be increased, if an area is allocated for bicycles to be locked, surely they should be guarded. It is more than apparent that if the government honestly want to improve the environment and encourage cycling, they need to up their game and listen to the few who stick with their bicycles regardless of the prejudice aimed towards them.
