Children at Al-Khair Islamic will be swapping their usual food for fair trade meals to raise awareness about ethically sourced goods.

During its fair trade fortnight the east Croydon school will host workshops, and a live video link where pupils can speak to school children in Ghana. All proceeds from fundraising will be donated to schools in Ghana to promote fair trade.

Head teacher Aisha Chaudhry said: “We would like to nurture an environment amongst our pupils where every decision they make is a moral decision.”

Mrs Chaudhry also stressed the importance of educating children to make well-informed and ethically fair choices.

The special events began last Friday with the school canteen offering a special fair trade café and menu. Other local schools and community members have been invited to join in.
